Rheem Tank Water Heaters in Cypress & Houston
Tony's Plumbing replaces Rheem storage-tank water heaters across Houston, Cypress, and Katy. Builder-installed Rheem tanks that leak or run rusty are swapped for a new Rheem tank when gas or electric service already matches.

What makes this page different: Many northwest Houston subdivisions left the factory with a Rheem tank; replacement is about age, leak location, and fuel type.
Builder Rheem tanks reaching replacement age
A lot of northwest Houston and Katy production homes shipped with a Rheem tank in the garage. Those units are now in the window where sediment, anode loss, and seam leaks show up together.
Tony's Plumbing replaces them with a new Rheem tank when the fuel type and location still make sense, instead of treating every aging Rheem as a tankless lead.
Gas versus electric Rheem swaps
A gas Rheem needs a sound vent and a gas valve that matches the new input. An electric Rheem needs panel capacity and elements that match the voltage already in the house. We do not cross those fuels unless you are asking for a planned conversion.
Dielectric fittings, a pan, and an expansion tank are part of either swap on a closed plumbing system.
Bottom leaks and rusty hot water
Water at the base of a Rheem tank is often the shell, not a loose drain valve—though we check the valve and nearby fittings first. Rust only on the hot side points at the tank or its anode, not the city main.
A shell leak is a replacement. Patch compounds do not hold on a rusted inner tank once Houston water pressure is back on.
Rheem tank versus Rheem tankless
Staying with a Rheem tank is the right call when gas is limited or you want a one-day closet swap. A Rheem tankless is a separate install with venting and BTU requirements described on our Rheem tankless page.
Call (832) 890-8449 and tell us gas or electric, and whether water is on the floor now. We schedule Houston, Cypress, and Katy replacements from that.
FAQ
- Do you replace builder-installed Rheem tanks?
- Many local houses came with a Rheem tank. We swap it for a new Rheem tank when the fuel and location still fit, with pan and expansion protection on closed systems.
- Water at the bottom of my Rheem tank—can it be sealed?
- Shut the cold supply and the gas or breaker. Tony's Plumbing confirms whether the leak is the tank or a fitting, then replaces a failed Rheem shell rather than coating it.
- Is a Rheem tankless the same visit as a Rheem tank?
- Ask for the scope you want. Our Rheem tankless page covers on-demand installs. This page is storage-tank replacement only.
